Where is Sint Maarten?
Saint Martin/Sint Maarten is in the north of the Leeward group of the Lesser Antilles, in the northeastern Caribbean Sea. The northern half of Saint Martin is a province of France. The South half, Sint Maarten is its own country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands. This combination of cultures will ensure a true vacation feeling from the moment you reach Sint Maarten’s Princess Juliana International Airport.
Hurricane Irma

In September 2017, Hurricane Irma ripped through Sint Maarten devasting the island, its inhabitants, and much infrastructure. This included the four-story passenger terminal building and the air traffic control tower. Since then, one of the busiest airports in the Northeast Caribbean has had to operate by first using tents which later became air-conditioned pavilions. The airport is fully functioning again however this is all taking place in only a fraction of the old building.
Luckily, the airport is currently working on the $92 million Airport Terminal Reconstruction Project that started in April 2020 and had plans to be fully completed at the end of this year, however due to the COVID-19 pandemic is now set to be finished in 2024. This will be led by a new departure hall that will be opened this year and followed by a new arrival and ticket hall.
